The Memorial Lake State Park was built in 1945 in honor of the Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers who fought fearlessly in World War I and World War II. The park, which encompasses 230 acres of the picturesque Lebanon County, is located at the southern base of the Blue Mountain.
The park offers plenty of recreational activities to visitors of all ages. Here, you can rent a canoe, a paddleboat, a kayak or even a rowboat at $10 an hour. The park features two boat launching ramps and 56 overnight mooring spaces that are let out on a first come first serve basis. Only boats with electric motors are allowed on the 85 acre Memorial Lake. The lake is abundant in largemouth bass, muskellunge, northern pike and channel catfish among several other varieties. The angling enthusiast can indulge in a spot of shoreline or boat fishing.
The park also includes a short woodland trail along the northern shoreline which hiking enthusiasts can explore. Also, the vast expanses of unfettered greenery lets visitors take causal strolls through most of the park. And if you're on the lookout for some interesting bird species, you will be glad to know that over 100 different kinds of birds have been spotted in the Memorial Lake State Park.
Winter months see a large number of visitors skiing through the park. The uncluttered terrain of the park provides several short distance alternatives for the novice as well as the expert skier. You can even go ice-fishing on the lake. However, the authorities do reserve a one acre section of the lake for ice skating.
You can also carry along a picnic basket to the park with you. With several picnic locations along the shoreline and in the wooded grove, you can relax in the spellbinding beauty of the lake. You can even avail of charcoal grills that are spread out throughout the park for a barbecue supper. The Memorial Lake State Park also houses two pavilions which you can call ahead to reserve. The pavilions make ideal venues to host your private party or celebrations for groups comprising of up to 70 people.
