The Tidal Basin links the Potomac River with the northern end of the Washington Channel and is made of overflow from the Washington Channel and the Potomac River. The basin covers about 107 acres and is about 10 feet deep. Paddle boats can be rented on the east side of the basin and is a great way to see the surrounding sights.
To honor the blooming of the Japanese cherry trees, The National Cherry Blossom Festival is held annually around bloom time, which occurs between mid-March to mid-April. This is a great event to attend to celebrate the fresh new spring season.
