Located in historic Georgetown and built in 1765, this Old Stone House represents ordinary citizens and is believed to be the oldest surviving structure predating the creation of the District of Columbia. Though it is a symbol everyday colonial life and common people are thought to have lived here, there are stories of George Washington staying here while choosing land for our nation's capital.
In addition to being a residence, the Old Stone House has also housed a paint store, clock shop, haberdashery, and even an office for a used-car lot. Today it has been restored and is representative of a typical 18th century middle class dwelling. The Old Stone House will take you back in time and you'll see what life was like for ordinary American citizens during the early days of DC.
