Built in 1899, the Old Post Office in Washington is commemorated as the first skyscraper to have been erected in the city and was home to both the US Post Office and the DC Post Office at the time of its inception.
Today, this edifice is considered to be one of Washington's top eight attractions and draws thousands of visitors every year, who throng here to admire this magnificent structure, while also visit the equally celebrated Old Post Office Pavilion. Spread over three stories of entertainment, the pavilion embodies the distinct verve and upbeat tempo that permeates the district's Pennsylvania Avenue. Here, you can opt for some good old fashioned retail therapy at the numerous stores, or simply head to the dining area for some fine cuisine and peppy ambience. The Old Post Office Pavilion also offers dining coupons, attractively priced at $6.50, which entitle to your choice of entrée, beverage and dessert from the comprehensive range of international fare.
The Pavilion is open to visitors from 10 am to 8 pm, Monday through Saturday in the months between March and August and from 10 am to 7 pm, Monday through Saturday and 12 pm to 6 pm on Sunday between September and February. Nestled right between the While House and the US Capitol, the Pavilion is hard to miss and a great place to visit if you're looking to capture the vivaciousness and exuberance of Washington DC.
