Welcome to the world-renowned National Zoological Park, home to more than 2,700 animals from 435 different species. Approximately one-fifth of the National Zoo's large variety of animals belong to endangered or threatened species. The zoo is divided into several areas, including the African Savanna, Amazonia, Asia Trail, Great Cats, Ocean Living, Great Apes & Other Primates, and many more! You'll see everything from pythons to sloths, and from kangaroos to toucans at this fantastic zoological wonder!
More than three million visitors flock to the 163-acre zoo and park each year. The zoo is open 364 days a year, and is famous for Tian Tian and Mei Xiang, the zoo's two giant pandas! Best of all, admission to the National Zoo is completely FREE as part of the Smithsonian's dedication to providing educational facilities to the public.
