Travel back in time when you explore the buildings and the grounds on 45 acres of George Washington's Plantation at Mount Vernon Estates and Gardens. Tour the mansion and many outbuildings including the greenhouse, stables, and slave quarters. Four different gardens are featured and grow a wide variety of trees, plants and flowers, as well as producing fresh fruits and vegetables for the Mount Vernon kitchen. You can also hike the quarter-mile Forest Trail which takes you deep into the woods passing many unique attractions along the way.
In addition to the historic buildings and beautiful grounds, Mount Vernon also has a four acre working farm. Hogs, mules, chickens, cattle and other livestock call the plantation home. A variety of colonial farming and cooking techniques are demonstrated. Hands-on activities such as cracking corn and fence building make the Pioneer Farm Site a favorite for all ages. George Washington's Gristmill is also a highlight. Here you can watch a water powered wheel grind grain into flour. You can also attend a wreath-laying ceremony which takes place daily at the tomb of George and Martha Washington.

Held on February 22nd, this celebration allows free admission on this day to anyone named George or anyone whose birthday is also on the 22nd of February.
The George Washington Museum and the Archaeology and Restoration Museum are also on site. Both feature a wide variety of unique and historic artifacts. Mount Vernon also has many shops, a food court, and a restaurant which features staff in traditional costume of the day and serves up colonial and regional dishes. Mount Vernon is open daily including holidays and parking is free and convenient.
