Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC
Money may not grow on trees, but you can see where it is 'born' with a visit to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing! This facility is where the county's paper money - officially known as legal tender and Federal Reserve Notes - is printed. Public tours are offered Monday through Friday. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produces billions of bills each year that are delivered to the Federal Reserve system.
The bureau also prints other government documents, including naturalization certificates, identification cards, Treasure securities and more. You may want to arrive early to tour the facility - lines sometimes form and only a limited number of visitors can enter the facility each day. As educational as it is interesting, a stop at this unique Washington landmark will give you a greater appreciation for every bill in your wallet!
