Located in a grove of trees near the southwest corner on the grounds of the National Academy of Sciences, the Albert Einstein Memorial honors one of the greatest minds in history. The bronze statue weighs over 7,000 pounds and depicts Einstein seated with crumpled manuscripts in his hand. Written on the manuscripts are three of the Einstein's most famous scientific discoveries in their equation form. The statue sits on a white granite circular bench and inside the circle are over 2,000 metal objects embedded in the stone representing the many astronomical objects including the sun, moon, and planets at their exact location at noon on April 22, 1979 when the memorial was dedicated.
