Wreath Laying Ceremony at Woodrow Wilson House in Washington, DC
Every year on December 28, our 28th president, Woodrow Wilson, is remembered on his birthday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Woodrow Wilson House museum in Washington, DC. This museum is actually the historically preserved home of the Wilsons from the 1920s, and many of the original furniture pieces and decorations from the home are still completely intact. The museum is dedicated to educating the public about Wilson's legacy - his ideals for the future of America and his devotion to service.
The end of December is a wonderful time to visit this museum - not only can you observe the wreath-laying ceremony on the 28th, but you can also take in the annual Christmas on S Street display that decks out the home in traditional 1920s holiday regalia. The highlight is the 12-foot Christmas tree that is displayed in the home's impressive solarium. For a small admission fee, adults and children can tour the home with an experienced guide, where they will learn about Wilson's presidency, the history of the home itself, and the 1920s in Washington DC.
