Annual Civil War Music Muster at Gettysburg National Park near Washington, DC

The annual Gettysburg Civil War Music Muster is a celebration of American heritage that takes place every August at Gettysburg National Park in Pennsylvania. This event brings together musicians from around the nation who are dedicated to learning about Civil War music and putting on authentic performances using original instruments. The music played at this performance includes both compositions from the Civil War era as well as Victorian dance and celebration music. Musicians play banjos, mandolins, and fifes - many of them original and preserved from the 1800s. Each year features special solo and ensemble guests from around the US.

This event is free and open to all ages. Performances start around 11:30 AM and continue on through sunset. Families often bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic lunches so they can spend a day relaxing in the park. There is often a crowd at this event, so it's a good idea to show up early to stake out your space on the lawn. Additional performances for this event also occur at the nearby Dobbin House Courtyard, Eternal Light Peace Memorial, and Pennsylvania Monument. The Music Muster usually takes place in late August - please contact the park for exact dates and a schedule of performers.
