American Indian Heritage Month Family Day at National Postal Museum in Washington, DC
Every November, the National Postal Museum in Washington, DC celebrates American Indian Heritage Month with a family celebration day. This fun and educational event teaches kids and their families about American Indian means of writing and communication, and takes a look at all the current and former U.S. stamps that commemorate various aspects of American Indian culture. The day also features cultural song and dance performances and hands-on arts and crafts activities. Workshops also are held that teach kids about tolerance, diversity, and stereotypes.
This event is completely free and occurs on a weekend day in mid-November every year. Also free is admission to the museum itself, which is dedicated to exploring and educating the public about the history of the American postal service. Temporary and permanent exhibits feature artifacts and insights about how America has communicated from the Pony Express times through now. The annual events at American Indian Heritage Day vary from year to year, so please contact the museum about specific events and times.
