Washington DC Transportation Guide
Getting around Washington DC can seem like a huge problem and a headache, but we have this guide that will help simplify it for you. In just a short amount of time, you can be jetting around Washington DC with ease. It's actually a lot easier than most people think.
Metro Subway The subway in Washington DC is one of the best and cheapest ways to get around in the city. Fares start at only $1.35 per way (off-peak), and only go up slightly during peak times. You can get a One Day Pass that is $5 and is valid after 9:30am on weekdays. The trains run for most of the day and night, going from 5:30am-midnight Monday through Thursday, 5:30am-2am on Fridays, 8am-2am on Saturdays, and 8am-midnight on Sundays. Bus Standard fares on the bus system are $1.25, and they run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The frequency of the stops at any bus stop changes with the time of day and which day it is, though. Bus drivers do not carry change, so you should have exact change with you for where you want to go. Otherwise, you will lose some money on the exchange. Taxi Cab fares can be tricky to calculate unless you have an advanced degree in math, but here is a simplified version of the rates. Cab rides go from 1 ($4 base price) to 8 ($12.50 base price) zones but there are several things that will add to your rate. If you have more than one person, you will pay a flat rate of $1.50 per person extra. If you have more than one grocery back or suitcase, you will add $0.50 per bag or suitcase with large objects costing $2. If you call for a cab, that will cost you an extra $1, and if you get a cab during a snow emergency, then the fare will be doubled. This will make it a lot easier for you when traveling around Washington DC. Since most of the things to see are all in strip, traveling shouldn't get too complex. Just remember that the more luggage you have, the more a taxi fare will cost and that if you just have one bag or piece of luggage per person, it will be a lot cheaper to take the bus or subway. |
