Dupont Circle is a large traffic circle in Washington DC, where seven major roadways intersect. Physically speaking, Dupont Circle is the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue NW, Connecticut Avenue NW, New Hampshire Avenue NW, P Street NW, and 19th Street NW. Yet the area is so much more than a large intersection of major city streets. Here you will find dozens of popular hotels, landmarks, and entertainment venues. The area is home to several foreign embassies and also is the site of large festivals and celebrations each year. Dupont Circle was designed by the great Pierre Charles L'Enfant in the late 1800s and today is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places.

In the heart of Dupont Circle is a vibrant urban park that is the center of trendy restaurants and shops as well as high end residences. This park is often filled with picnickers, office workers taking a break from work and enjoying the fresh air, bicyclists, chess players, and more. At the heart of this park is the Dupont Memorial Fountain, a grand fountain made of distinguished white marble.

Just outside of Dupont Circle in the Dupont Circle neighborhood is the Phillips Collection, an internationally recognized museum that is artwork from such greats as Renoir, Degas, Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, and many others. Guest lecturers and curatorial staff are on hand throughout the day to provide you with an enlightening experience with the works of art, or you can tour the museum at your own pace.

Extending from Dupont Circle and outward on Massachusetts Avenue towards the National Cathedral, you will find the famous Embassy Row. A large number of foreign countries are represented on Embassy Row, including the Britain, Finland, Chile, Denmark, Peru, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, Japan, and many others.

You can explore Dupont Circle on your own or take advantage of the convenience of one of the many tours that visit the area. The Mount Vernon/ Arlington Tour is an eight hour narrated tour that takes you by motor coach to some of the area's most popular landmarks and attractions. In addition to stopping at Dupont Circle, this tour also hits the Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the US Capitol, Fort Washington, the Iwo Jima Memorial, the Pentagon Memorial, and many more.

The Old Town Trolley Narrated Tour gives you the convenience of a guided tour while allowing you to explore the attractions at your own pace. With this tour, you can travel to seventeen top attractions in the city and enjoy interesting narration while you are on the trolley. At each stop, you will have the option of hopping off the trolley and exploring the sight in more detail one your own or continuing on the tour. If you hop off the trolley, you can re-board another trolley that will arrive at the stop shortly. In addition to Dupont Circle, this tour also visits the National Cathedral, the Lincoln Memorial, Georgetown, the White House, the museums of the Smithsonian Institution, the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, and others.

With so much to see and do in this popular area of the city, it makes sense to choose a hotel close by. Some of the many hotels in the Dupont Circle area include the Hilton Washington Embassy Row, the Fairfax at Embassy Row, the Dupont Hotel, and the Best Western Georgetown Hotel and Suites.

Dupont Circle is a vibrant and historic area of Washington DC, and is a "must see" for your trip to the area!

Old Town Trolley Narrated Tour - Washington D.C.
This was a great way to see Washington DC and spend extra time at the places we were most interested in. We even enjoyed a minor inconvenience when Union Station was closed because of a security threat and we had to take the Metro to the Welcome Center, also a new experience for us.
