Maryland Renaissance Festival near Washington, DC: Before there were PresidentsTravel back in time to 16th century England when you visit the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The festival is located on 25 wooded acres on Crownsville Road in Crownsville, just outside of Annapolis, Maryland. What you'll find when you get there is called Revel Grove, and it looks just like the 16th century English village it is meant to recreate. The festival is an annual tradition and runs on weekends in late August through October. Wandering the grounds, you'll see musicians, entertainers and costumed actors that make you feel like you've stepped into a time warp. Browse the exceptional selection of crafts and art, including pottery, jewelry, leather, clothing, prints and sculptures. Or grab an authentic bite to eat at one of the food booths or pubs. Who doesn't like a gigantic turkey leg or a big mug of ale? And there are plenty of sweets and other treats for younger taste buds. You'll never get bored with the entertainment on eight stages, jousting at the arena and plenty of games for visitors of all ages. Just walking around, you might see a fire-eater, juggler or magician, and there are pony rides, a maze and a free children's activities area. The highlight of each festival day is a visit by Henry VIII and his royal court. Every day starts with the King's Welcome just before the entry gate opens. Come early and see everything the festival has to offer. |
