The City of Sturgis, SD is in the western most part of the state and situated at the bottom of the northeastern part of the Black Hills. This small town has quite a colorful history with the world's largest motorcycle rally being a huge part of this history. Of course, motorcycles are not all what this town has to offer.
The summer time is the best time to visit Sturgis if you are into motorcycles. The area comes alive with riders from all over the country coming out to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. You could see famous musical artists coming out to perform concerts amidst some of the most innovative creators of custom bikes and accessories. Over 500,000 people descend upon Sturgis in August for these festivities.
If you are not so much up for motorcycles, that's ok. The City of Sturgis, SD also has plenty to offer at other times of the year as well. The district downtown just reeks of history. After all, it was built to better serve the soldiers at Fort Meade, the Seventh Calvary in particular. The old buildings house some interesting shops and restaurants and the town also has an industrial park which houses an ammunitions manufacturer as well as some of the top gun craftsmen in the country.
And let's not forget the family friendly activities which are just minutes away like the
Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills and Wind Cave National Forests,
Custer State Park and Bear Butte State Park, and Devils Tower National Monument. There are also many trails for hiking and nature observation housed within these parks as well as opportunities for mountain biking, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and skiing. The area around the City of Sturgis, SD is a veritable hotbed of activity.
