Dell Rapids is a little town located on the beautiful Big Sioux River, 15 minutes north of Sioux Falls that offers beautiful natural scenery and a fresh serene feel.
With the river slowly carving its way through the Pink Sioux Quartzite bedrock, big beautiful pink cliffs, called The Dells, offer scenic overlooks that draw people from all around to get a glimpse at such a beautiful views. Throughout the town of Dell Rapids, you will see pink quartzite in buildings, walls, and foundations, particularly on Main Street. Many of these buildings are on the National Register of Historic Buildings due to the Victorian, Romanesque, and Neo-classical Revival architecture. Visit the City Park which is located along the banks of the Big Sioux River and offers a swimming pool, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, a playground, baseball fields, and camping areas. From the City Park you can take The Sioux Scenic Trail along the rolling rapids (Dell Rapids is named after these) to the Soaring cliffs of the Dells for a relaxing afternoon picnic.
