An exact replica of the famous Borgund Stavkirke of Laerdal, Norway, Chapel in the Hills was built in 1969 as the home for the
Lutheran Vespers radio ministry, which today welcomes visitors as a symbol of peace and reflection.
Tucked away at the base of the Black Hills, visitors from all over as well as locals come to this unique looking chapel to worship, retreat, or simply enjoy the serenic beauty. The "Stabbur," an authentic, grass-roofed store house greets everyone upon arrival. Built, in Norway, and assembled onsite, it serves as the Visitor Center and gift shop.
The chapel, gift shop, and museum are open 7 days a week, from 7 AM to dusk from May 1st to September 30, and on a limited basis in April and October. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
In the works is a Meditation Walk, complete with benches and statuary, which will provide a winding path in the beautiful hills and behind the church.
Wander the chapel grounds at your leisure, or attend a worship service each evening during the Summer months. Dress is casual and everyone is invited. Chapel in the Hills is also a beautiful place for weddings.
