At the Black Hills Mining Museum, you can learn about mining and gold panning in the past and present.
Here, you can learn all about the rich history of Lead, South Dakota. This museum has tours of the simulated underground level of the Homestake Gold Mine, where you'll get a look at early-day and modern mining techniques. Also, you'll be able to learn about gold panning and even try it for yourself. Every visitor who participates in gold panning is guaranteed a sample of gold to take home!
Along with these tours and activities, the museum also has exhibits of mining and gold panning artifacts and photographs plus a theater that features a 20-minute video on past and present gold mining in Lead.

- May to August - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- September 1st to May 10th - 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
