For those who are ready for a leisurely walk and a look at some of South Dakota's most spectacular scenery, be sure to participate in the Wind Cave Seasonal Volksmarch.
A volksmarch is a non-competitive walk set up along pre-marked trails. Custer State Park and the Black Hills Volkssport Association have put together several different volksmarches throughout the year. This particular walk is about 6.2 miles.
Be sure to bring your binnoculars so you can get a closer look at the wildlife that sometimes crosses the trail. The walk begins at Gordon Stockade Historical Site, and covers a portion of Stockade Lake Nature Trail. In addition to viewing the picturesque scenery of the Black Hills, walkers will also see Stockade Lake, which is one of the best fishing sites in the Black Hills.
Don't leave South Dakota without enjoying the sights and scenery while enjoying a leisurely walk.
