Digging Deadwood: Understanding Chinatown at Adams Museum in Deadwood, SD
The Adams Museum in Deadwood, South Dakota has a great exhibit called, "Digging Deadwood: Understanding Chinatown." This is a very interesting event for all that attend. The Black Hills of South Dakota are filled with ghost towns that represent a source of wealth that ran dry all too soon. Gold mining made the people come to Deadwood and then it became depleted. Many towns that were a huge source of gold during the gold rush days are not even on the map anymore. People may not come to Deadwood to pan for gold anymore but many do come to local casinos. Deadwood was the third city in the country to legalize gambling. The exhibit reveals a huge amount of artifacts from an excavation that took place from 2001 to 2003. It also reveals new insight to the earliest Chinese residents. The artifacxt found in the excavation are available for everyone to view.
