Artist Franz Brown at Black Hills Central Railroad, Hill City, SD
If artist Franz Karl Brown looks familiar, it may be from more than just his original artwork, which has been featured at the Black Hills Central Railroad in Hill City. For the past twenty years, cards, posters and postcards around the world have born the likeness of the Hot Springs-based artist. Portraying Santa Claus in traditional Christmas scenes, Brown has been painted by fine artist Tom Browning and by himself.
Brown also creates under the name of John Porthos Falstaff, and has written and photographed for his articles in Black Hills Travel Host, Black Hills FACES Magazine, US Art and Outdoor Photographer, and Southwest Art Magazine.
The Black Hills Central Railroad takes guests back in time with a scenic ride aboard an 1880's steam locomotive train. For more than two hours, passengers are immersed in the rugged beauty of the western Black Hills. The Railroad lies near Mount Rushmore National Monument and Crazy Horse Memorial.
