Winter Activities in the Mount Rushmore, SD Area

Like every season in South dakota, Winter offers a complete itenerary of fun-filled things to do! Go snowmobiling on the Lewis & Clark Trail near Yankton, and discover 325 miles of incredible snowmobile trails in the Black Hills. Snowmobiling is an exciting way to explore the Beautiful Black Hills area. The snowmobile trails provide groomed areas for easy access, as well as many off-road areas to explore.

The sky's the limit for skiing in the area. Terry Peak is one of the highest points east of the Rocky Mountains, and Deer Mountain offers 25 runs of varying difficulties, and cross-country skiing. Visit the 4 major challenging, cross-country skiing trails and Wilderness Retreat at Black Hills National Forest. Together, the Big Hill, Eagle Cliff, Beaver Creek and Bear Mountain trails cover 66 miles where you can follow the given trails or blaze one of your own. Here, you can also enjoy ice-fishing and snowshoeing.

Deer Mountain In Lead, SD. offers a playground of Winter activities, including a Skate Park, Roughrider Tubing Park, a ski school for the beginning skiier, and a whole schedule of fun events like the box-sled cardboard race.

If you're more the indoor type, and would rather hang out in front of the fireplace drinking cocoa, you can snuggle up to the warm atmosphere of the many area bed & breakfasts like The Strutton Inn Bed and Breakfast. This Victorian style bed and breakfast is located in the Black Hills near Custer, which offers the perfect place for a Winter getaway, and close to all you want to see and do in the area.

• At Roughrider Tubing park-participants must be at least 41 inches tall.

• There are two day sessions of tubing. The morning session is from 9 AM - 12 PM and the afternoon session is from 1 PM - 4 PM. (The morning and afternoon sessions do fill up, so please call if you are bringing a group).
