Old City ParkDallas Heritage Village, or Old City Park, employs the use of living history guides and an ineractive setting to encourage visitors to experience history firsthand.
Near downtown Dallas sits Old City Park, a 13 acre wooden lot that allows visitors to take a step back in time, to Northern Texas during the Civil War era. Working on this functioning farm are a number of actors who socialize with guests, keeping in character to help educate about the time in which they pretend to live. The animals they keep, the homes they live in, and even the farm they tend, are all interactive, meaning that visitors can step right in to see how a traditional Jewish family lived during 1901, or what happened in an 1800's apothecary. Dallas Heritage Village contains all the things a town of its size would have possessed during that era:
All of these features are interactive- guests can see, or even work with, the actors as they live the day to day lives of the characters they and the historical society have created. Old City Park is available for rentals including special occasions such as weddings, and they often host both tours for adults and children's daytrips. The Park is open every day of the week but for Sunday, and all year round excluding major holidays. It's address is 1515 S Harwood St, Dallas, TX.
