Not only does this huge lake provide water to surrounding communities, including Lewisville, it is a preferred destination for water sports and fishing for much of the year.Under the auspices of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lewisville Lake offers thousands of acres of natural habitat along more than 200 miles of shoreline.
Part of this natural haven is managed by the City of Lewisville. The southern shore has facilities for camping, picnics, swimming (even a beach) and a marina with boat rental. Fishermen find the lake particularly attractive, with its populations of white bass, catfish, large-mouth bass and more. On many warm days visitors will see ski boats and jet skis plying the waters, while sailboats drift across the surface.
Some have found the 105-passenger Chamonix II a wonderful way to enjoy the water and celebrate with a large group. This catamaran accommodates wedding receptions, dinner cruises and many other types of formal and semi-formal events. The Lewisville Fishing Barge is a favorite way to enjoy fishing, picnics and feeding the wild fowl that populate the lake.
For those with a slightly different idea of outdoor fun, Lewisville Lake Park has youth athletic fields, an excellent disc golf course and a swimming area with beach. There is always the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area for those interested in seeing 2,000 acres of wilderness while camping or canoeing.
Located right at the heart of the metropolitan area, Lewisville Lake also hosts the national collegiate bass fishing competition. Annual passes are available for access to most lake property. More information is available at the Corps of Engineers office - 469/645-9100.
