It's the only stretch of this famous, historic highway that is on the National Historic register.

It is a highway of many names, that leads to many places, and it runs through Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Immortalized forever in songs, poems, and pop culture, the highway is honored in the city of Williams, AZ for its rich history, and was awarded National Historic Register Status in 1989. Throughout the 'loop' in Williams, you'll find soda fountains, shops, and diners reminiscent of a time long ago. Among them is the Cruisers 66 Cafe, also a historic landmark in Williams.

While on your way to the Grand Canyon, be sure to cruise the historic Route 66 loop, and say good-bye to your stress while you go back to the 'good ol' days' and take life with ease.

For some reason i wasn't aware that route 66 passed so close to the grand canyon. I could easily explore both while i'm in that area! I really enjoy diners from that time period as well.
