At Yoho National Park, you'll be able to not only explore the great outdoors of Golden, but also learn a little natural history.
This park features massive rock walls, gorgeous waterfalls, and towering peaks. At the park, you can engage in activities such as hiking, biking, camping, backpacking, and sightseeing. While you can engage in these activities in many parks, Yoho's well-preserved environment is what sets it apart from the rest. At Yoho, you'll see original spiral tunnels used by the rail line of Cathedral Mountain, a natural rock bridge that crosses over the Kicking Horse River, and Lake O'Hara, which has been so protected by outside pollution that only a few tour buses are permitted to the lake.
The park's most impressive preservation, though, is Burgess Shale. Because Yoho is located near the Great Divide, the park holds the world famous Burgess Shale, which holds 515 million year-old remains of more than 120 soft-bodied marine species. The fossils at this site have been so immaculately preserved that scientists can at times see what the organisms ate before they died! With its well-preserved natural setting, Yoho proves to be an extraordinary national park.
