The Art Spot Gallery is located in Golden, British Columbia, Canada, a community with a history spanning more than 100 years. Golden was originally a settlement of adventurers and settlers who came to the area by steamboat down the Columbia River, by foot, by pack train and even by the Canadian Pacific Railway.
The Art Gallery of Golden is run by the Golden District Arts Council (also known as the
Kicking Horse Culture Council) was incorporated in 1970. The Golden District Art Council is a non-profit society dedicated to the preservation of the arts, especially work from local artists and talents. It's a public gallery located on the main street in downtown Golden.
The gallery actively looks for exhibit proposals and artists. The actual gallery opened in February 2007. One of the gallery's earliest exhibits was one about Golden's adventures and settlers which was done by Colleen Palumbo, William Pitcher, and Bill Usher in June 2007.
The Art Gallery of Golden hosts curated solo shows and curated thematic shows.
The Gallery also hosts workshops such as watercolor workshops. Workshops teach participants basic watercolor techniques with step-by-step instructions. Most participants can complete an entire painting in one all-day class. Participants can learn to paint a picture from a supplied photograph, or they can learn to paint one of the paintings suggested by the instructor. Suggested paintings include flowers, a wren house, an elk, or a landscape mountain scene.
The Art Gallery of Golden is funded and sponsored by the British Columbia Arts Council, the government of British Columbia, Canadian Heritage, and Kicking Horse Country.
