CPR Swiss Guides' Village Edelweiss in Golden, BC
The CPR Swiss Guide's Village Edelweiss in Golden, British Columbia, is a great place to visit in order to experience the history and culture of the Swiss guides that once populated the area. Long ago, Swiss guides took guests up into the Rocky Mountains for exploration and adventure. Now, although the Swiss Guide's Village is privately owned, you can still tour the grounds and have a look at the great surroundings.
Above the valley, you'll spot six chalets that once housed the great Swiss Guides of Golden, British Columbia. Back in 1910, Swiss guides were used to show the different valleys and mountain plains to the wealthy visitors. The Canadian government decided to set up a village for the guides to live in, which happened to be in the Edelweiss village in Golden. Tours will show you the history of these people.
The best thing about this village is that the homes of the Swiss guides have stayed the same for all these years. When you visit them, you will be seeing them as they were when the guides themselves used them. You can also tour the home of one of these guides, which is now owned by the daughter of an original Swiss guide. The chalet is kept in its original form with the interior being representative of the lifestyle back then.
