The Okanagan Regional Library, which was founded in 1936, is comprised of 12 branches which spread from Golden all the way to the US border. The Library houses an impressive collection of books, magazines and periodicals which are accessible to members at the library itself or through their website.
The Library stocks both fiction and non-fiction titles, which include all the latest best sellers. You can even avail of their audio resources which comprise of music on CDs as well as on audiocassettes, tapes with books to help you pick up the nuances of a new language, and even videocassettes, which range from topics like travel and do-it-yourself to documentaries and children's favorites. The Library also has a small collection of Book Sets of 6-8 copies each which may be borrowed by Book Clubs. The titles are in the genre of adult fiction and include books like Portrait in Sepia by Isabel Allende and Cara Callan by Richard B. Wright. The section on children's books includes Board books for babies and toddlers which comprise of stiff, laminated pages with simple and brightly colored illustrations. For the pre-school or kindergarten group, the Picture Book collection which is made up of limited text stories with vivid illustrations makes a great way to inculcate the reading habit. Teens and young adults will delight in the collection of fiction and non fiction books which focus on issues they face like dating, peer pressure and sexuality while also featuring some of the most popular reads.
And if you are tired of waiting in long queues to just get your hands on the latest titles, the Quick Reads alternative sounds like a very good idea. These books can be borrowed for no longer than a week and cannot be renewed, thus encouraging their unhindered circulation. In this collection, you will find titles like A Thousand Splendid Suns by Kahled Hosseini and Lean Mean Thirteen by Janet Evanovich. For readers with special needs, the library also includes Large Print Books and Taped Books to facilitate their reading experience. You can also browse through the Okanagan Regional Library's collection of audio books, encyclopedias and magazine and newspaper articles online.
