Kootenay National Park is settled on a variety of landscape, making a visit to this park a truly unique experience. Kootenay's theme is "From Cactus to Glacier" and rightfully so. The Canadian Rocky Mountains are located in this park, providing semi-arid grasslands (with cactus); on the north side, the park has glacier-covered peaks. The park displays plants and animals from three different ecological zones--alpine, subalpine, and montane--providing a variety of wildlife. Some of the animals you'll find at Kootenay include grizzly and black bears, lynx, moose, cougars, wolverines, mountain goats, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, and many more. The southwestern corner of the park also has the only display of Douglas-fir/ponderosa pine/wheat grass in any of Canada's national parks.
Radium Hot Springs, located on the Rocky Mountain Trench side of the park, is also a popular attraction at the park. The springs are located by the Redwall Fault and Sinclair Canyon, giving this park even more majestic scenery. With all this and more, Kootenay National Park will prove to be a one-of-a-kind sight to see.
