Summer Competitions at Golden, BC

The mountainous landscape and beautifully preserved natural environment of Golden, British Columbia, makes it ideal for all kinds of sports and outdoor recreation, so you won't want to miss the competitions hosted by Golden this summer. The Mount 7 Psychosis Downhill Race, the British Columbia Men's Amateur Championship, and the Will Muller Cross Country Challenge are all notable events that will be most enjoyable for any sports enthusiast.

Mount 7 Psychosis Downhill Race (July 14-16)
This race is considered the world's steepest, longest, and fastest downhill race. This race has been occurring annually since 1998. The race was begun by a Golden local and was originally for Golden locals. Because of its growth into a renowned race, visitors and locals alike now enjoy this Golden event. The course features a drop of over 4,000 vertical feet, making this race a favorite among thrill seekers. During the weekend of this event, various races are presented for different categories and levels of racers. The event features races for adult men and women and children aged 13 to 15. $10,000 in prizes will be awarded throughout the week for the best competitors in each category.

British Columbia Men's Amateur Championship (July 18-21)
The BC Men's Amateur Championship is a golf tournament that brings in some of British Columbia's best golfers. The tournament is a 72-hole game is hosted by the Golden Golf Club and the British Columbia Golf Association. For avid golfers, this will be a must-see tournament.

Willi Muller Cross Country Challenge (August 6-11)
The Willi Muller Cross Country Challenge is a six day hang gliding event. Although this is a competition, it is quite laid-back. Hang gliders can hang- or paraglide at their own pace within these six days, and their three best performances will be entered for the competition. Hanggliders of all ages and skill levels can participate in this event with different categories and levels of competition. Even for non-hang- or paragliders, this competition ought to be quite entertaining.
