Unto These Hills is an outdoor drama telling the story of the Cherokee people from their first encounter with Europeans to the struggle to remain on their lands and ultimately their forced removal and journey on the Trail of Tears.
Located about 45 minutes from Gatlinburg in Cherokee, North Carolina, the show runs from June until August and is essentially a story of Native American culture, history, and survival. With authentic costumes, dance, and a talented cast, the story comes to life. You'll see as the Cherokees first encounter the Spanish searching for gold, and then later watch as warrior Tecumseh urges his people to fight against the white man and Sequoyah believes that the Cherokee can live in peace with the white men.
The drama and truth of what really happened unfolds including the tragic and devastating removal of the Cherokee from their native lands and how they were forced to march over 1200 miles in the to Oklahoma. You'll also experience Cherokee culture alive and well today. Unto these hills is a moving and powerful tale of the Cherokee people and their history.
