Weaving a Life: The Gatlinburg Cottage Weavers Industry Exhibition is an exhibit of the cottage weaving industry spanning over a period of 70 years from 1926 to 1996. Guests who wish to view the display may do so between November and January while the gallery is set up and open for public viewing at the Arrowmount School of Arts & Crafts located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In addition to an Opening Reception on the first day of the exhibit, The Weaving a Life Exhibition also offers a Gallery Reception in late November that is by reservation only.
The Weaving a Life Exhibition is intended to be a celebration in recognition of the over 180 weavers whom pioneered working from home while both caring for and financially supporting their families. The social and economic impact that these women had on their region is unbelievably vast as is their contribution to their craft.
The Arrowmount School of Arts and Crafts is nationally recognized for its commitment to educating the public on the cultural history of Gaitlinburg through visual artistic means. The public are welcome year-round to visit Arrowmount's 5 galleries, resource center, and supply store and are encouraged to enroll in the various programs that the school offers.
In keeping with it's ultimate goal of "enriching lives through art," Arrowmount offers artist residencies, assistantships, work-study programs, scholarships, community outreach programs, conferences, and music programs to the Gaitlinburg community. Doing so affords everybody a chance to take part in their various education programs regardless of financial ability, because to them the student's experience far outweighs the school's expense.
