Southern Exposure at Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort & Amusement Park in Gatlinburg, TN

The annual Southern Exposure winter sports competitions in Gatlinburg, Tennessee occur every February at the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort. Anyone is free to sign up to compete in these competitions, but be warned - there is a lot of talent on the slopes when Southern Exposure goes down! Competitions take place for skiing, snowboarding, slalom skiing and ski jumping. There is also a much-loved annual Cardboard Sled Classic Race. Entrants are instructed to make a sled out of just cardboard, paper and tape - and then they have to test their inventions by racing them down the slopes!

After the competition, an awards ceremony is held for the top places in each event. Cash and other prizes are awarded. Thousands of spectators gather for the event, and attendance is absolutely free. Attending the competition is only one way to enjoy the Smoky Mountains area in the winter - the day before or after you can spend a day on the slopes yourself, or enjoy one of the many events going on during Winterfest in Gatlinburg.
