Take a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railway towards the Natahala River. Park your car at the Wildwaters' Rafting Center 12 miles from Bryson City, North Carolina. This is the starting point of the Rail &Trail Excursion. Ride the rails with the white water rafters. While they go on ahead to the Natahala Gorge, the train stops along the ridge. You hop in a customized jeep. It will take you on your own trip.
You can explore the mountains as the jeep takes you past the scenic beauties of lakes and waterfalls. Your route takes you along the Little Tennessee River and across the renowned Appalachian Trail. When the trip ends, you will find yourself back at the Wildwaters' Rafting Center. Prices vary so check in advance.
