This magnificent home, which is a national historic landmark, is located in Asheville, North Carolina. The home was made in the French Renaissance style in the imitation of the chateaus of the Loire Valley. The home has many unique features which make it an architectural masterpiece.

Vanderbilt clearly wanted a lush, opulent home & surroundings. The estate features a three mile long approach road. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The estate’s forests were maintained by Gifford Pinchot and Carl Schenck. Originally, the estate included its own village, dairy farm, forest school, and more. The estate also played host to celebrity guests such as Edith Wharton and the current Prince of Wales. Part of the estate was sold after Vanderbilt’s death to the federal government. That part now makes up Pisgah National Forest.

Today, the home is a popular tourist attraction. When you visit Biltmore House, you can take a self-guided tour through the homes extravagant rooms. Marvel at the masterpieces of art that adorn the walls. Meander in the library that houses over 10,000 books. Other unique features of the home include an indoor pool, 65 fireplaces, and the impressive ceiling of the banquet hall.
