The well-known Moody family of Galveston has made many contributions to Galveston, Texas. Many of the family's contributions have are to further education and to preserve history. The success of the family enabled them to build a mansion that today is one of the many tourist attractions in Galveston.
People, in general, are enamored by the lives of the successful and famous. Measuring a massive 28,000 square feet, the four-story Moody Mansion is definitely a sight to see. The home was purchased in the early 1900s and today contains most of its early features. The Moody family lived in the mansion for more than 80 years.
The Moody Mansion is an elegant home that is an excellent choice for special occasions, such as weddings, parties, and business meetings. Visitors can rent the first floor ballroom and kitchen for just about any type of special event. The ballroom has a maximum capacity of 75 people and costs $1250 to rent for five hours from 5:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. The kitchen can hold up to 48 people and at $50/hour is considered a steal for casual occasions.
There are exhibits for those who prefer to guide themselves through the mansion. Tours of the 20-room home are also provided by Moody Mansion staff. Visitors who opt for the personal tour obtain a history lesson on the Moody family and some of the personal affects that remain in the mansion.
The Moody Mansion charges adults $6, senior citizens $5, and children $3 for admission. Monday thru Saturday the mansion is available for public view 10:00 a.m. to 3:00. On Sunday the mansion is open from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is an onsite gift shop that is open at various times every day of the week.
