Luigi's Ristorante Italiano opened its doors in 1997. It is situated in the attractive Sealy-Hutchings Building, a converted 19th century bank in the historic Strand district of Galveston. Luigi Ferre, the owner and your host is well-known for extending a warm Italian welcome to his customers.
The style of the restaurant is traditional trattoria with a contemporary twist. There are exposed brick archways, racks full of fine wines including Luigi's own private label, and replicas of Italian art adorn the walls.
The menu has a great selection of traditional recipes and contemporary Italian cuisine - choose from cold and hot starters such as the mixed seafood salad, gnocchi, steamed mussels or fried baby calamari. For homemade pasta cooked to perfection try the Lasagna di Funghi (layered pasta with an assortment of mushrooms) or Combinazione Di Forno (eggplant with rolled pasta and grilled chicken).
To follow are veal, pork, beef and fish dishes including Bisteca Ortopiccante (grilled filet Mignon with a capers and hot peppers sauce) or Carne Di Maile Fumicato (pork lion served with an apple liqueur sauce). As well as choosing fro the menu you can try the five course meal special and to get really close to action request a seat at the chef's table in the heart of the kitchen.
After dinner you can sample one of the many cognacs and Grappas in the fine wood-paneled bar. The restaurant is open Monday thru Saturday 11.00am-2.30pm for lunch and 5.30pm-9.00pm for dinner (until 11.00pm on Saturdays). Closed on Sundays.
