The Lone Star Fight Museum in Galveston is dedicated to the development of American Aviation through the ages and documents its tremendous contribution to the history of the country.
The Museum houses an array of restored aircrafts, many of which date back to before World War 2. Here, you can view the legendary B 17 exhibit, which is painted in the colors of the Thunderbird and still retains the turrets and equipment that featured in the wartime B 17. This aircraft holds the unique distinction of having flown 112 missions over Germany during the Second World War. The museum's B 25 exhibit commemorates the Doolittle Raiders. This aircraft, which is endorsed by the Doolittle Association, is also the only civilian aircraft which bears the official Doolittle Raider emblem as a part of its nose art. You will also find several other noteworthy exhibits in the Museum's over 40 aircraft strong collection. These include the P 47 Thunderbolt, the F6F Hellcat and even a Hawker Hurricane. All of these magnificent machines have been maintained in flying conditions and you can even climb aboard several of these historic aircrafts for an unforgettable experience.
The Fondren Center of Aviation Studies is devoted to the founders of the phenomenal invention which led to man conquering hitherto inaccessible territories. This exhibit, which showcases the legendary body of work that was accomplished by the Wright Brothers, is one of the most widely viewed in the Museum. You will also find a number of military and civilian vehicles which also belong to the era prior to the Second World War
The Museum also hosts several events throughout the year, the most noteworthy of which is the 'Texas Aviation Hall of Fame Fly Day'. On this day, the most significant of the aircrafts that are housed in the Lone Star Flight Museum take one final trip over the field as they head back for a long winter of maintenance.
You can event gift a historic flight to a loved one at the Lone Star Flight Museum. With an in-air experience of about 20 minutes and the B 17 and the B 25 to choose from, this gift is sure to be a cherished one.
