Galveston Island Municipal Golf Course in Galveston, TX, which is located on the ever-scenic Sydnor Bayou, will give you a course that is much more adventurous and challenging than their ads would lead you to believe. However, you don't have to be a pro to golf on their course as they have holes designed for every skill level from beginner to expert. The course was worked over in 1991 by Carlton Gipson, the expert designer responsible for the infamous Old Orchard in Richmond as well as Greatwood in Sugar Land. Some of the holes are designed to give you a full picturesque view of Sydnor Bayou while you're shooting from hole to hole.
You had better be up for your best game when you come here to play. You had also better love water as almost all but two holes are played around water hazards. A couple of the holes also require that your slicing is under control. Beware of the par three holes, which are almost all all-water. This may sound very hard, but it's a very fun and exciting course, even for the inexperienced golfer.
The Galveston Island Municipal Golf course gives you the opportunity to do some great bird watching, and that's not counting all the sandhill cranes you'll see on the fairway. This golf course gets great reviews from tourists that come to Galveston and find a little R&R on the course. It's no wonder that this course is listed on the top five municipal golf courses in the state of Texas. Available if needed are lessons, rental clubs, a pro shop and a handy snack bar.
