Housed in a brightly pained building whose architecture is distinctly reminiscent of the Victorian Era, Artists' Loft is a gallery which showcases some of the finest works of art in Galveston.
The gallery has also hosted Galveston's renowned Artwalk which displays some of the latest offerings by local artists. At the Artwalk, you can view exhibits of photography, paintings and exquisite sculptures to the strains of live music provided by a symphony orchestra. Artists' Loft is well known for its 'Lower the Sailboat' exhibit by Robert John Mihovil. The artist has captured a sailboat captain lowering one of his sails as he enters the Galveston Harbor near Pelican Island. The profile of the sailboat, as it stands against the beautiful Galveston sunset, is considered to be a symbol of the essence of this region.
The gallery has also showcased the beautiful sculptures by Jerry Graham. Here you will find brass or copper representations of dragonflies, palm trees and flowers and even crosses made from nails. The artist is best known for his wire trees which are embellished with gem stones.
The Artists' Loft is open only during the Artwalk which is conducted on weekends at an interval of every six weeks. The gallery is located on the second floor of Old Galveston Square. You can visit anytime between 5 pm to 9 pm during the Artwalk.
