Annual Dickens on the Strand in Galveston, TX

Galveston, Texas, kicks off its holiday season each year with the Dickens on the Strand. This is a festival that raises funds for the renovation and preservation of historical structures in the Galveston Area. Some of the funds have even restored and maintained the tall ship Elissa from 1877. With the setting of Dickens on the Strand in this historical town, you can travel back in time just like Mr. Scrooge in the Dickens novel! The streets are lined with vendors dressed in period costume from a Dickens novel. Visitors who arrive in costume are admitted for half-price. There are carolers, parades, and petting zoos, all staffed by folks in Dickens???s Era attire. There are feasts, concerts, hand bell performances, house tours, and even a Dickens Ball. After hurricane damage in the area, these funds are even more critical. Kick off your holiday season with a literary experience and lots of fun!
