Thomas Edison Estate in Fort Myers Beach, Florida is a historical area where Thomas Edison lived and worked. Many of his ideas and inventions were formed or at least thought of in this home. The location is one that was used by Thomas Edison when he vacationed. The location, located near to the ocean and with great weather was a favorite of the family.
Visitors can visit the Thomas Edison Estate during normal business hours Monday through Saturday with limited hours of operation on Sundays. Those that visit can walk through the location for a self guided tour, but a guided tour allows visitors an in depth explanation of the location. There are displays throughout that depict the history and uses of the areas as well as memorabilia that is found here. The tours will take you through the actual home through many of the rooms. Then,stroll through the garden, which is well kept and beautiful. Finally, guests will be able to explore Thomas Edison's laboratory where many of his most interesting experiments were done. For example, you can see a display of how the light came to be as well as the various stages of development it has seen over the course of time.
This is an ideal educational tour that will allow both the young and old to get to know the man behind the inventions and historic areas. Visitors in larger groups, or school groups, should make prior arrangements, but are welcome. Visitors can also visit the museum that is located nearby. Not only will they be able to see many of Edison's memorabilia, but they will also be able to learn about his neighbor, Henry Ford.
