A trip or vacation to Forty Myers, Florida would not be complete without a stop at the Southwest Florida Museum of History. Located in the historic downtown part of Fort Myers, you will have attractions all around you. The museum is only open Tuesday through Saturday, so be sure to arrange your schedule so you won't miss it. The hours the museum is open are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The admission prices are very reasonable with special rates for groups of 10 or more as well as special student rates.
Located in what used to be the Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot, you will meet many different people while viewing their exhibits. Spanish explorers, the Calusa, Seminoles and Paleo Indians are just a few of the interesting people mentioned. Other famous historical pieces are a 1926 La France fire pumper and a pioneer "cracker" house, which is an authentic replica, of course. There is also a huge display of depression and carnival glass consisting of 1,200 pieces for the antique lover.
Anything interesting involving the time of early civilization is shown at the museum from early artifacts to the early settlers and cattlemen to the people in the boating and fishing industries. Art exhibits from famous artists like Picasso are also on the upcoming schedule.
The Southwest Florida Museum is also starting a new event to attract many visitors interested in literature and reading. The new program, called "Night at the Museum-An Author's Evening", will be on the 2nd week of the month and will have an author there each time. The evening will consist of a presentation by the author, refreshments and dessert. All proceeds will go as a fundraiser for the museum.
