The Seminole Gulf Railway in Fort Myers, Florida is a short line railroad. Its AAR reporting marks are SGLR. There are two separate lines that it uses. The first is a minor line that runs from Oneco to Venice in the south. There are branches from Sarasota to Matoka and then to Fruitville. The major line that is runs is from Arcadia to Vanderbilt Beach and North Naples. The company that owns and operates the railway is based out of Fort Myers. Each of the lines does have one interchange point with CSX. One is located at Oneco and the second at Arcadia.
Atlantic Coast Line Railroad was the previous owner of the original line which is the main line. It became part of CSX. The other minor line was owned and run by Seaboard Air Line Railroad and later became part of CSX. The new owners purchased and began operating the railway in 1987.
The Seminole Gulf Railway offers passenger service in a variety of ways. Visitors will find that it is one of the better murder mystery dinner train options available. Guests can book reservations ahead of time to enjoy this event. It is highly recommended that groups book in advance. In addition to this activity, the railway hosts daytime excursions, holiday events, and getaway packages.
