Manatee World in Fort Myers is dedicated to the protection and preservation of manatees and works in tandem with federal, state and local agencies on various rescue and retrieval missions. In recognition of their tremendous contribution to the welfare of manatees, the US Fish and Wildlife Services have granted Manatee world the 'Verifier' status.
In Fort Myers, you can join the dedicated team on a narrated ecological cruise with an informative narrative, and explore the natural habitat of these gentle giants who are unfortunately on the endangered list of species. The open-air boats seat up to 44 people on benches and the tours last for about an hour and a half. Tours depart at 10 am, noon, 2 pm and 4 pm, from Monday through Saturday and are priced at $15 per person. Proceeds from these tours go towards Matinee World's preservation activities and you can rest assured that you money will be made good use of. Although the manatees are seen all throughout the year in Lee County, hundreds of them swarm to the warmer shores during the winter months.
At Manatee World, you can also view a large number of exquisite native birds, plants and animals. Visitors are greeted by a 61/2 foot tall manatee who leads them on to his 30' inflated partner. Manatee World also hands out free educational material to educate them about the importance of harmonious coexistence of man and nature. You can visit Manatee World between 10 am and 4 pm, Monday through Saturday. It is recommended you book your place on the tour well in advance.
