Founded in 1979, the Edison Community College Gallery of Fine Arts, which was later renamed the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery is a treasure trove of exemplary works of art.
This gallery, which is located in the Lee campus of the Edison College, houses a number of temporary exhibitions, featuring artists of national and international repute. The gallery draws its inspiration from the appreciation of art in all its forms and hence focuses on the exhibition and interpretation of modern and contemporary artwork in diverse media rather than on collecting. The gallery has showcased widely acclaimed exhibits like the ΒΌ Mile or Two Furlong piece by reputed artist Bob Rauschenberg, from whom the gallery derives its name. The gallery has also featured famous names like Brody Lederman besides the annual student exhibit which showcases outstanding artwork in media like drawing, design and photography by the students of the college. The gallery has also presented out of the ordinary exhibitions like the Shoebox sculpture exhibition, where over 80 artists have displayed their skill by scaling down their work to the format of a shoebox.
You can also purchase exquisite prints and posters at the gallery which include representations of some of Bob Rauschenberg's most extraordinary works and also imagery by Darryl Pottorf and Michael St. Amand. The gallery is open from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday and 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday. Admission is for free, though the gallery does welcome donations.
