The Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium in Fort Myers, Florida provides guests with the ability to learn about the natural systems around them, especially in Southwest Florida and to help them to enjoy what they have to offer. Located on Ortiz Avenue, the location provides a range of interactive displays and educational exhibits to teach. The location is a private one and one that is not for profit. They help to teach environmental education to those that visit. The site is on about 105 acres.
Many of the programs available allow visitors to get right into the science of it all. There are three nature trails here, a Planetarium featuring exciting programs of various aspects of space, and it houses a large museum. Bird and butterfly aviaries are available that allow you to walk around with animals surrounding you. There is a gift shop too. Picnic areas provide for a great place to grab some lunch while you enjoy your stay. There are also private meeting facilities available for those that would like to book a special event here.
The museum offers a variety of artifacts, history exhibits and much more. Many of the exhibits help to teach about how the various issues facing Southwest Florida are affecting the world around them. This includes all types of problems with the environment such as the dwindling water supplies and the endangered manatee. You can visit the amphibians and arthropods display too!
