Veterens Day in Fort Meyers Beach, FL
Veterans Day is a great time to take a trip to Fort Myers Beach, Florida; the city's summery weather and beaches are a wonderful escape from the cold, and a November visit will avoid the spring break and President's Day crowds. Fort Myers is located in Southern Florida on the Gulf Coast, and is known for its white sand beaches and calm, warm Gulf waters. The area experiences warm temperatures and sun year-round, with the exception of the occasional hurricane - be sure to check the forecast before you visit! Visitors can spend their time relaxing on the beach or swimming, and more adventurous types can rent jet skis, wave runners, or snorkeling gear. The many outfitters in town can help visitors rent SCUBA diving equipment, take a swim with dolphins, or try a parasailing trip.
The area hosts several low-key Veterans Day events, including the annual Midpoint Madness 5K charity race and several memorial services at local churches. The November weather is also great for partaking in golf and fishing, two of Fort Myers' most popular activities. There are literally dozens of public golf courses and driving ranges, and several sport fishing companies that offer half- and full-day chartered trips where you can keep what you catch. Families with kids will enjoy the Imaginarium hands-on museum when the little ones get tired of the beach - this children's museum features lots of fun interactive and educational exhibits about science and technology.
