The second biggest attraction in the state, the Oak Creek Canyon is what visitors call paradise on earth. With miles of greenery, through which a clear stream trickles, its clear water headed for the red Sedona rocks, the canyon is a delight to visit, at any time in the year.
As opposed to the more popular canyons in the country, the winding road that runs through the canyon makes visitors look up at its majestic glory, rather than peer down from the rim. The high elevation point ensures that the base is well watered and covered with foliage, at any time of the year. Hiking opportunities abound a-plenty with a network of trails that spreads through the region. The picturesque West Fork which is hidden away in the Secret Mountain Red Rock wilderness, allows visitors of any age and fitness level to revel in its pristine beauty. The sweet fragrance of the apple orchard scents the Canyon in autumn.
The best view of the regal Oak Creek Canyon is probably that from the Oak Creek Vista. Located at the top of the switchbacks, one can gaze into the breathtaking beauty of the Canyon and the lush Coconino National forest that the Canyon is located in. if you plan to camp at the Canyon, remember that you are required to have a Red Rock Pass to park your vehicle here. Additional fees are levied for camping at the Canyon. The Oak Creek is abundant in trout and makes a great destination to go fishing.
You can also visit the Slide Rock State Park which is located towards the bottom of the creek bed. Here, you will find a number of intriguing rock formations as well as a slippery natural wall slide.
